Tips to Change Your Eating Habits

Many of us, especially those frustrated by their weight loss efforts, face common problems when it comes to eating habits. However one of the most common problems is being an emotional eater. Emotional eating has been observed in most people who turn towards overeating whenever going through a phase of emotional distress. Ultimately, they end up gaining loads and loads of extra pounds which in turn become a new source of emotional disturbance. Once gained, they find it very hard to lose weight.

Tips to Change Your Eating Habits

A routine practice of keeping food journal with you would help you identify if you are an emotional eater, and subsequently, it would allow you to have a better control over your eating habits. All you have to do is, whenever you take in something, write it down in that journal. Whenever you feel like depressed or happy, energetic or down, you should write down your feelings about that time when to wanted to eat. That way, you would be in a better position to make an analysis of your eating habits.

In addition to the routine exercise mentioned above, it would be even more beneficial if you develop a habit of writing down about day’s happenings at the end of your day. You can write about the good ones, the bad ones and the result of both on your eating tendency. Increased eating tendency might be a result of depressed mood or it may otherwise be more common when your mood is elevated.

These exercises would help you trace your eating patterns in-depth, related to all kinds of emotional states. And once you have done that, you can carve out a healthier pattern for yourself which would enable to have greater control over your eating habits. Ultimately, adopting healthy eating habits would be very much possible for you.

In short, keeping a diet journal with you is meant to help you point out the problem areas and fix them by making necessary changes in your diet plan. Not only does it need you to make notes of what and how much you eat, but you should also write your emotional state of mind during, before and after those meals. Believe me, it is not a futile exercise, rather you would be thankful to it at the end. Best of luck against all your ‘weighty’ issues.
